If your child is experiencing a crisis please contact a professional immediately.

It is a psychiatric emergency if your child:
  • Attempts suicide or expresses serious thoughts about attempting suicide.
  • Experiences uncontrollable anxiety.
  • Acts destructive or otherwise acts out-of-control and cannot be restrained.
  • Hears or sees things that do not exist.

Some options include a hospital emergency room, a family doctor, a community mental health agency or a suicide prevention or crisis center.

The Louisiana Office of Mental Health operates several state psychiatric facilities, which provide mental health evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation services to child/adolescent clients with serious emotional/behavioral disorders. For more information call the Louisiana Office of Mental Health at (225) 342-2540.

LAFFCMH believes the best way to help is to put you in contact with a parent or caretaker in your area of the state who has been through extensive training on how to maneuver through Louisiana's mental health system of care. To find out who is in your region, please visit the Louisiana Office of Mental Health's Regional Map and click on the part of the state in which you live.

For more information on the LAFFCMH and how we can help you call our Parent Support Line at 1-800-224-4010.
